"Step outside the arena, beyond your comfort zone, and discover adventure built safely with a horse that genuinely wants to be out there with you."

This clinic gives participants a unique opportunity to build confidence beyond the arena and develop real world trail and trekking skills with their horse, free from violence, force or intimidation.

Together, horse and rider will learn how to create safety, trust and forward movement outside controlled environments, so adventure becomes something mutually enjoyable rather than emotionally endured. Step beyond arena-bound fears and discover the natural world on your doorstep with a horse that genuinely wants to explore it alongside you.

THE PROBLEMS WE ARE SOLVING WITH THIS CLINIC

We are addressing two big problems in horsemanship through this clinic.
1. The problematic relationships taught to trail horses for "safety".
2. The neglect of refined, collected equitation for trail horses.

Typically, horses developed for trail riding and trekking are trained through varying levels of intimidation and pressure so that they become obedient, compliant and suppressive of their own opinions and experiences. This is often justified as “necessary for safety” out in nature.

But the reality is, horses made safe through intimidation are only safe until their fear becomes bigger than the pressure controlling them.

A truly safe trail horse is not simply obedient.

A truly safe trail horse has developed enough trust, confidence and communication with their rider that both horse and rider can navigate uncertainty together.

This means horse and rider can:

1. Safely disagree with one another without the entire task collapsing into panic, punishment or abandonment.

2. Communicate honestly about fear, tension and uncertainty without explosions, shutdown or emotional flooding.

3. Encounter unexpected situations, obstacles and surprises they have never specifically trained for, and still remain connected enough to solve the problem together.

Furthermore, trail horses are often treated as “less than” horses developed for competition or arena work. As though a horse performing an eight minute dressage test somehow requires collection, self carriage and postural development more than a horse carrying a rider for one to six hours across varied terrain.

The truth is the opposite.

Trail horses require enormous attention to the quality of their movement, posture and balance if they are to remain sound, willing and physically capable long term.

A horse who travels heavy on the forehand cannot comfortably carry a rider over distance for years without consequences. Neither can a horse sustain heavy contact, constant rein management or demanding leg aids over changing terrain and long durations.

A truly capable trail horse develops enough balance, self carriage and physical organisation that they can travel with increasing ease, efficiency and confidence, without being constantly held together by the rider.

This is what we will explore during this clinic.

Not just how to “get outside,” but how to develop a horse physically and emotionally capable of thriving there.
